Alcohol Guidelines for Drinking Safely

If you drink regularly and especially if you get hangovers, you should probably find out how much is considered a recommended daily limit of alcohol.

Here are the guidelines for daily drinking so you can check your limits per day.

Daily Recommended Amounts

- 2 pints of any strength beer (6% content beer and below, less if it’s higher in content)

- 3 glasses per day of 12% content wine

For fortified wine, life port or sherry:

Using a 50ml measure as a basis.

- 4 measures per day at 20% content

For spirits on the basis of a small 25ml shot of vodka, gin, whisky, tequila, rum:

- 4 measures of a single shot of spirits

- 2 measures of doubles

- 1.5 pints of any strength beer (6% content beer and below, less if it’s higher in content)

- 2.5 glasses per day of 12% content wine

For fortified wine, life port or sherry:
