What commercial hangover cure, remedy or prevention can you get?

There are a number of commercial products claiming to help cure or prevent your hangover, sold either as a remedy or as a prevention method. All of these are available on the Internet or in shops or pharmacies in some cases.

These are quite straightforward as they all have several common traits:

1. They do not require a prescription and are not considered as drugs

2. They contain vitamins and/or minerals and/or herbal or plant extracts

3. They are taken in pill or soluble form

The best commercial remedies or prevention methods:

As we have years of experience of testing which cures for hangovers are the most effective ones, we're not going to cite any brand names just yet. Instead, we'll allow you to make your own judgement and choose for yourself after you review the products you find.

The most effective of these without question are those which:

Are soluble or effervescent

If a tablet is effervescent it means that it dissolves in water, ensuring a more effective and faster distribution of elements in your blood. Furthermore, the water will also rehydrate your body, further reducing negative symptoms such as dehydration.

Contain vitamins C and B6

Vitamins C and B6 are those which are depleted the most when you consume alcohol. Their absence also appears to intensify your headaches when hungover. Therefore, any commercial remedy or prevention dosage that you consume should contain these vitamins. If they don't contain them, forget it.

Contain elements beneficial to your liver

The best remedies will also help your liver by protecting it and accelerating its ability to break down and expel the alcohol from your body.

2 examples of such elements are the amino acid cysteine (also found in eggs) and silymarin; also known as milk thistle extract. If both of these are found in the prevention pill you're thinking of taking, then it's good news.

Do not require that you take them out with you

The products that claim to prevent you from getting hungover but only on the condition that you take them between every alcoholic drink are not effective. Why? Because you'll never bother or remember to take them! Firstly, taking several of them with you isn't convenient and secondly, after a few drinks you tend to forget or not care about your special pills at all.

Remember that if you do see anyone popping pills every hour in a night club you would think they were taking illegal drugs. You also risk being ejected from a club if anyone sees you messing around with pills.

The best products for reducing hangover symptoms are those which you only need to take once, before bedtime OR those which can be taken once only, before drinking.

Both require that you remember to take them of course but at least you only have to take them one time only. So read the instructions before purchasing anything and if it requires that you take it several times throughout the night, don't bother, because you'll never do it.
